Dear Florence Academy friends, patrons and students,

For the past 25 years The Florence Academy of Art has taught hundreds of students those important techniques passed on to us by generations of great painters. When we started, it was almost impossible to find this instruction anywhere in the world, yet we knew there were students wanting more than what was being offered by art schools and colleges primarily focused on self expression. We knew we were going against the odds to teach sound technical principals in drawing, painting, and sculpting.

Today, the world is experiencing an art movement rooted in solid academic instruction, in which the students we taught early on are now teaching their own students. We are proud to have played a role in this movement and thrilled that large numbers of students around the world today are receiving academic instruction in the visual arts. Accreditation was the next hurdle, and we are proud to make known that The Florence Academy is a fully accredited U.S. Certificate program.

Demand is high. We are training students in Florence and Sweden who come from over 35 countries and who are graduating as accomplished painters and sculptors. We feel the need to feed the movement during this time of demand. Though there are numerous ateliers and schools in the U.S., many which are run by our graduates, and though we refer people to these schools, we have found a call for a Florence Academy branch in America, specifically in the New York area. I am proud to announce we are opening this branch in January 2015, and are accepting applications now.

I am also proud to announce the instructors for The Florence Academy of Art - New York Metro. Jordan Sokal, a Florence Academy graduate, was Director of the Intermediate Program in Florence for a number of years, and has agreed to move to New York to be our Academic Director. Two outstanding painters, Amaya Gurpide and Richard Greathouse, will be our principal instructors. I have tremendous confidence in this team. I have also made a commitment to visit New York frequently to see students enrolled there, much like I do in Sweden.

I'd like to thank the many people who made our vision come true, and welcome you to visit or apply to be in the first graduating class of The Florence Academy of Art - New York Metro.

Sincerely,

Daniel Graves
Founder and Director
