It was published in the journal “Iskusstvo i Khudozhestvennaya Promyishlennost” (1898, No. 3).

Vladimir Stasov mistakenly attributed this ornamentation to Viktor Vasnetsov and offered high praise of the stylistic intuition it represented; at the same time, the critic wrote in exclusively disparaging terms of Mikhail Vrubel. Both artists demanded a correction.
