Molinari Alexander
A Portrait of Countess Natalia Alexandrovna Zubova
1800s
This painting was lost as a result of looting in the Grozny Museum of Fine Arts during military operations in Chechnya in the mid-1990s.
In October 2001 the painting was discovered in a Sotheby’s sales catalogue valued at US$88,500.
As a result of measures taken through the Russian National Interpol Bureau the portrait was removed from the sale and returned to Russia in 2002
